According to announcement issued by South African Railways and Harbors Administration, East Londons' graving dock, under construction for greater part of war period, will come into commission this year; port will have 683 ft of new landing quay, with depth of water of 30 ft at low tide, and 650 ft of repair quay with dredged depth of 35 ft at low water; graving dock, which will be able to accommodate ships up to 17,000 tons, is 723 ft long, 102 ft 3 in. wide, and 32 ft 6 in. deep at low tide.
