How weight reduction was achieved by Brown Boveri in electric locomotive construction; for first time 4000 hp was lodged in locomotive with aggregate weight of only 80 ton; with load of 20 ton on driving axles it was possible to dispense with pony axles and to utilize whole weight of locomotive distributed over four driving axles in two 2-axle trucks for production of tractive effort.
