Account of derailment which occurred Sept 7 1945 on Ruabon-Barmouth line of Great Western Railway; part of canal bank gave way, washing away embankment for length of 100 ft at rail level and leaving rails suspended across gap; whole train fell into gap and caught fire, being totally destroyed; failure of canal bank apparently brought about by "general instability of formation, due to variety of causes."
