Crane rails have had to follow modern crane developments implying higher pressures and higher precision requirements; rigid gantries require important foundations of concrete sleepers; higher cost of these foundations as compared with cheaper types requiring more upkeep, is soon compensated by increased productivity; level crossings with railways require careful construction, as also electric feeders, moorings, etc; crane and rails should be engineered as unit.
