Continuum flows about blunt-nosed slender bodies representative of missiles and satellites are considered with emphasis on observables; solutions applicable near nose and very far downstream are presented and evaluated by comparison with large number of results obtained by numerical experiments; effects of chemical reactions on fluid-mechanical aspects of problem, in particular on similitude, are discussed.
