In design of space carrier (launch) vehicle, there are theoretical methods which determine performance required of individual stages to achieve overall mission; relationship required between stages is analyzed; factors to consider such as engineering solution to interface problems between stages and to interaction problems of various systems within stages, both in pre-flight checkout and in-flight performance; summary of past achievements and trends established in building block concept for multistage vehicles; reference made to ELDO (European Launcher Development Organization).
