Spaceflight trajectory design consists of careful selection of subset of trajectories which are subject to several constraining factors, such as mission objectives and limitations imposed by spacecraft hardware; other characteristic parameters of trajectory to consider are selection of flight time, launch dates, launch time, landing location (or other target coordinates), and retro velocity; trajectory design effort for Ranger and Mariner missions at Jet Propulsion Laboratory is described.
