Research was carried out to define framework and methodology for costing alternative urban transport systems, to identify service and design variables which affect relative cost structure, and to specify conditions under which particular forms of transport seem to offer lowest cost transportation; hourly passenger volumes analyzed range from 5000 to 50,000, include costs for 6-, 10-, and 15-mi route lengths, and account for cost variations resulting from changes or additions in service and capacity.
