In supersonic and hypersonic problems, it is desirable to construct surfaces having large values of lift and/or drag per unit weight; possibility of using sail of woven wire cloth; device would have extremely small weight per unit area and could be made of material that could withstand high temperatures in hypersonic flight; aerodynamic characteristics of 2-dimensional sail in hypersonic flow.
