Engine cleanliness data from field tests carried out by Esso Research Laboratories, examined for relationship with deposits formed in laboratory Caterpillar diesel engine tests; vehicles used include passenger cars, taxicabs, light delivery trucks and heavy duty gasoline engine trucks; results show that engine test performance of lubricants fails to predict field performance.
