Investigating pilot control of research aircraft led Flight Research Center into study of flight at low dynamic pressure where jet reaction controls are efficient means of augmenting aerodynamic controls; computer and ground simulator studies provided background for designing flight systems; basic reaction control systems are designed into rocket-powered X-1B and X-15; F-104A turbojet aircraft serves as test bed for re action control system using hydrogenperoxide as propellant; design and construction of F-104A reaction control system and results of flight tests.
