Analysis of escape trajectory of solar sail from original circular satellite orbit oriented perpendicular to planet sun line subject to steering program that provides maximum time rate of energy increase; general solution is obtained, independent of vehicle dimensions, choice of planet, and starting conditions; although resulting trajectory is not optimum with respect to escape time and restricted by assumptions, it is useful as means of rapidly estimating solar sail escape performance in preliminary design studies.
