Doppler tracking is able to predict orbit of Navy's Transit satellite accurately enough to allow satellite to serve as navigation reference; Transit emits cw carrier whose Doppler variation is gathered by ground stations for computing orbit; for navigational use, satellite's position is telemetered to ship form storage in satellite; basic elements of Doppler ground tracking station for transit; test set-up for frequency-stability checks is shown; phase-lock loop of Model 1033A tracking station; frequency-variation problem.
