Since joining Soviet fleet in Dec 1959, Lenin has operated in Arctic waters and by end of 1963 had covered about 60,000 mi and, in conjunction with other icebreakers, has piloted more than 300 ships along Northern Sea route; reactors were refueled in 1963; each of 3 reactors operated on first charge for more than 11,000 hr and produced 430,000-490,000 thermal Mw-hr; information is given on nuclear plant, refueling and base maintenance, personnel training, etc. From paper before Third United Nations Conference on Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy.
