New system introduced by ESAB has been built by combining units from A6 component system and electroslag welding method; result is equipment which, when using combination Autrod 7 and Flux 5, produces welds that satisfy Lloyd's Register of Shipping, Det Norske Veritas, Bureau Veritas, and American Bureau of Shipping for steel qualities up to grade D; with welding speed of 0.8-8 in/min, plate thicknesses from 15/32 in. to 1 9/16 in. and even up to 2 3/64 in. can be welded within these speeds; maximum single run at present is about 63 ft; system may revolutionize welding of hulls and bulkheads.
