History of use of aluminum in ships since end of World War II, which has been mainly in superstructures of large passenger ships, with some reference to previous uses of material; production of plate in suitable sizes, and sections particularly adapted to shipbuilding are dealt with; consideration is given to problems of riveting and welding, studies of working of aluminum, structural investigations, and fire protection of aluminum; design problems involved are discussed; some large scale examples of application of aluminum are described.
