Aim is to indicate basic issues for ship operators (especially Indian ship operators who are faced with special regional and economic problems) as realistic basis on which to appraise utility and economics of planned preventive maintenance programs; factors considered are aim and basis of program, effects of inadequate data, standard practice instructions, documentation, costs, etc.
