Motor ship Letaba, having hold capacity of about 518,000 cu ft was built by Greenock Dockyards for British and Commonwealth Group; refrigerated cargo space comprises 6 holds divided by tweendecks into 16 compartments suitable for carrying refrigerated cargoes such as fruit, at any desired temperature varying from 28 to 55 F; 2 compartments are fitted for transport of frozen cargoes; cooling system operates on principle of indirect cooling with R 22 as refrigerant and brine as secondary cooling medium; refrigerating plant was built by Grasso's Koninklijke Machinefabrieken NV, Holland; 4 6-cyl compressors with capacity of 326,200 kcal/hr are installed.
