First part of paper reports inclining experiment made using model and small Perspex tanks containing water; changes in pitch and heave were automatically reproduced and only doubtful assumption made was that hydrostatic distribution of pressure existed under waves; second part reports mathematical approach; assuming hydrostatic distribution of pressure under waves, computer was programmed to calculate righting moment of ship in still water and also when hogging and sagging in longitudinal seaway; as example, stability of tuna fishing vessel is computed.
