SPAR (Seagoing Platform for Acoustic Research) is 354-ft-long, 16-ft-diam, cigar-shaped vessel, towed in horizontal attitude, then ballasted to vertical attitude to become stable platform; it displaces 1370 tons horizontal, 1720 tons vertical; SPAR operations will require 2 assisting ships, probably AGORS (oceanographic research ships), operated by Military Sea Transport Service; data to be gathered with regard to anti-submarine warfare problems.
