Technique for producing picture of topography of sea bottom and for identification of wrecks consists of fan-shaped-type Asdic beam which is fitted downwards by angle appropriate to depth of water; instead of being trainable, transducer is fixed so as to transmit only on ship's beam; comparison between "shadow" and " searchlight" Asdics is made and series of trials conducted in Oct 1963 reported.
