Extravehicular flight experiments call for Project Gemini astronauts to spend up to one hour outside spacecraft with rocket strapped on their backs while maneuvering through space; program is designed to evaluate man's capability to perform useful tasks in space, such as conducting external inspection of spacecraft; self-stabilized maneuvering unit worn on astronaut's back incorporates 12-thruster arrangement which gives astronaut 5 degrees of motion, 3 in rotation and 2 in translation; monopropellant propulsion is used for back pack; details of extravehicular suit which is modified Gemini suit.
