Examples of major lines of basic scientific inquiry in space program and problems which provide motivation for space projects; matters under investigation by space flight vehicles may be grouped around following areas -- problems relating to structures of stars and galaxies, origin and evolution of solar system, formation of sun and planets, and subsequent history of planetary bodies, control exercised by sun over atmosphere of earth, structure of upper atmosphere, and causes of weather activity in lower atmosphere.
