Optical system for implementing manned vehicle terminal guidance for soft lunar landing is described; method utilizes on-board tracking telescope to establish azimuth and elevation angles; with altitude this system provides sufficient information for computing lateral vehicle velocity which can be controlled within less than 2 fps, value not to be exceeded for safe landing.
