Generic analysis of rigid-body docking dynamics from initial physical contact of 2 spacecraft to final latching is presented; results can be used to estimate reaction forces and torques on main craft, and its resulting motion with respect to space for arbitrary contact conditions and prescribed relative motion of rendezvous craft; docking interval is separated into initial contact, continuous maneuver and latching phase; first and, third phases are analyzed as impulsive, whereas second phase occurs over finite time; 2 examples of possible docking maneuvers.
