Of all basic requirements considered for tanker John M, built for Metcalf Motor Coasters Ltd by Burntisland Shipbuilding Co, emphasis was placed on ensuring that contamination could not take place when several grades of cargo are loaded; basically, it was decided to remove possibilities of contamination by using separate filling and suction lines to each of 6 pairs of cargo tanks, by connecting 3 cargo pumps to suction lines by removable sections of pipe, and by employing 3 separate discharge lines; these arrangements are described. General description of tanker indexed in Engineering Index 1963 p 2150 from Motor Ship Apr 1963.
