New machine, developed by Textron's Bell Aerosystems Co, of Buffalo, N Y, rides on cushion of air over land, water, ice, mud and marsh and surmounts obstacles up to 1 ft in height; it has 3 circular cells, equally spaced around center of vehicle and fed by single lift fan; normal operating weight of vehicle is 2900 lb and additional 1000 lb payload can be carried with reduction in performance; Carabao is 18. 7 ft long, 16 ft wide, and has height oa of 10 ft; power is supplied by 2 air cooled aircraft engines; 150-hp engine drives 6-ft air propeller, which provides thrust and braking action, and fiber glass lift fan is driven by 60-hp engine.
