By virtue of its amphibious nature hovercraft can open routes, closed to other forms of transport; however, it will have to compete with ships, aircraft and hydrofoils; examination of factors affecting economic operation of hovercraft, payload capacity, first cost, choice of route and available traffic; by designing high-density craft operating at high cushion pressure, weight and first cost of structure are reduced; however, it will have limited space, and to achieve adequate floor area it may be necessary to introduce second deck.
