There is, as yet, little indication that application of cooling will extend to engine rooms of ships with steam driven machinery; of total heat liberated high proportion is latent heat, resulting in moisture and temperatures beyond endurable limit; with air conditioning in other parts of ship, personnel are exposed to physiological effects of excessive change in air; heat measurements at sea and effect of heat on personnel are reported, and certain recommendations are made.
