Paper points out some of peculiarities in en route weather over Polar regions, high cost of ground support and general lack of satisfactory communications; long range jet aircraft eliminated many problems; inability to obtain optimum flight levels from Air Traffic Control remains, even though Polar routes have relatively light traffic density.
