To evaluate seaworthiness and range obtainable with Nat Research Council tumbling crash position indicator beacon in calm and rough sea, tests were made 30 mi off coast of Halifax, NS; aircraft search height of 9000 ft was used to obtain polar patterns and extreme range information; range of 32 mi was obtained during Beaufort sea state 4 to 5 and 23 mi during 5 to 7 with 2 different beacons, each having life of 4 days.
