Growth in fuel requirements for transportation, private and commercial, in United States over past decade is reviewed; changing pattern in types of fuel required by vehicles used and some quality factors which affected methods of fuel production; review of mobile power plants utilized and of volumes and characteristics of fuels consumed on United States highways, airways, railways, and waterways.
