Claimed to be largest, flat deck, oceangoing barge in world, Island Exporter, which can carry 10,700 tons of cargo at draft of 18 ft 4 in., was launched from yard of Yarrows Ltd, Esquimalt, B.C., for Island Tug and Barge Ltd, and to be joined by sister barge, Island Importer; length of former about 360 ft, beam 75 ft, depth 25 ft with 10 ft high cargo bin on deck; power unit consisting of Lister diesel engine rated 72 bhp at 2000 rpm with electric starter and charging generator, has been fitted.
