Designed to augment existing ferry service between Swartz Bay, Victoria, and Tsawwassen Terminal in British Columbia first vessel in new series is twin screw, 3540-ton gross City of Victoria, built by Victoria Machinery Depot Co; length oa 342 ft 4 1/2 in., maximum breadth 78 ft 7 1/2 in., loaded draft 13 ft, trial speed 18.25 knots; 4 Paxman 16-cyl engines are coupled in pairs to input shafts of 2 gearboxes, each designed to transmit 3332 bhp from 2 engines each of 1666 bhp output at 777 rpm; plan.
