British traction equipment for prototype 25-kv a-c multiple-units for Calcutta suburban services is described; electric equipment is designed to permit crush-loaded 9-car train of two 4-car units with additional trailer to work between Sealdah and Kalyani and back in 131 min including stops, with 10% "make-up" time; acceleration is stipulated to be not less than 0.45 m/sec2 to 40 km/hr with balancing speed on level-tangent track of 96 km/ hr; traction motors are geared for maximum of 106 km/hr.
