Design and construction of Benloyal, first of series of four ships in Ben Line service, and important modifications made during construction of remaining three vessels;vessel was to be of 10,000 tons dw having service speed of 20 knots; power was fixed at 13,500 shp and block coefficient at 0.55; scantling draft of first was 30 ft, while that for others was increased by about 3 1/2 ft; two are powered by steam turbines and two by diesel engines.
