Basically, procedure determined characteristics of systematic family of ships obtained by permutation of four values each of main ship dimensions and form coefficients; weight, volume and power estimates are then made for each ship and its resulting functional capabilities determined; plots and cross plots are used to select smaller family, meeting owner requirements; cost estimates are made to select least cost ship from this group.
