Tests on 1/40 scale model of 60,000-ton dw tanker were made in new experimental tank at Research Institute for Applied Mechanics, Kyushu University; surface forces along boundary of screw aperture of model ship were measured at 12 points; axial clearance and rudder clearance are altered by moving axially in given stern frame of ordinary U-type; effects of number of blades of propeller, advance ratio, and rudder clearance as well as axial clearance on surface force of upper and lower parts of stern frame and rudder, were observed.
