Study of effects of terrain on military activities by Area Evaluation Section, Soils Div, of Waterways Experiment Station, under project entitled 'Military Evaluation of Geographic Areas'; effort concentrated on study of environment as it affects vehicle mobility; environmental factors dealt with so far are surface geometry, surface composition, hydrologic geometry and vegetation; individual factors in these families almost invariably reduce to geometric considerations when their effect on vehicle movement is examined; results of same tests and recommended characteristics for good cross-country vehicle are presented.
