Compilation of papers reporting results of ballistic, or Mercury-Redstone 2 (MR-2), flight and of orbital, or Mercury-Atlas 5 (MA-5), flight conducted with chimpanzees; MR-2 flight with chimpanzee Ham was conducted on Jan 31 1961, and MA-5 flight with chimpanzee Enos on Nov 29 1961; techniques employed to adapt chimpanzees to Mercury spacecraft, methods by which operations of preparing animals and delivering them in ready state to gantry at launch time were carried out, and medical account of prelaunch preparations and recovery and postrecovery care are presented.
