Possible approach to Mars flight relies heavily on application of existing capability; four-phase program is described; in fourth phase manned Mars stopover vehicle is developed, using Apollo-type command module, medium orbiting research laboratory (MORL) life-support system and mission module, and new Mars-excursion module, (MEM); assembled in Earth orbit, it would require launch of four to five uprated Saturn V's; mission integration and mission factors.
