One technique for measuring atmospheric properties of planets involves observation of response of entry vehicle to atmosphere; Ames Research Center study of such technique indicated accuracy with which it could be made to yield properties of Mars atmosphere; some of findings of investigation are described relating to atmospheric-structure and atmospheric composition experiments; vehicle design considerations.
