Environment associated with manned entry is reviewed with objective of arriving at entry vehicle class that shows promise of future mission versatility and capability of entry over range of entry velocities from circular to hyperbolic without large penalties for aerodynamic performance; multipurpose entry vehicle is shown to be feasible to degree that it would appear to merit further study in consideration of future entry vehicle needs.
