Possible activities are considered, grouped into scientific research, engineering development and qualification applications, earth-oriented applications, support of advanced space missions, and research for national defense; operational space station complex is composed of space station proper, and logistic support system both of which are described; design features of space stations including 6-man space station, launched, unmanned, by Saturn I-B vehicle and subsequently manned and resupplied by Gemini-type spacecraft, 6-man space station, launched by Titan III, and rotating 24-man space station, launched by Saturn V.
