Advantages and limitations of five approaches for thermal design of spacecraft that do not involve testing entire prototype in space chamber with solar simulation for complete vehicle; fifth approach, thermal-scale modeling, which is considered in detail, offers advantages over others in that smaller models can be placed within existing solar-simulation beams, chamber-size demands are not great, and larger models can be used for limited number of applications; definition and requirements of scale model; modeling techniques and associated problems; uses and advantages of scale models.
