Basic methods for lunar locomotion are investigated and analyzed; steel and track mobility seems to be most promising method; effects of surface characteristics, vehicle weight and tread configuration are related to traction, rolling resistance, range, obstacle capability and acceleration; typical examples are compared, varying lunar surface parameters to develop relative evaluation and to suggest method for further analysis; necessity for slow speeds and effects of lunar environment upon traction, stability, braking and other factors are discussed.
