Unconventional form of locomotion, proposed by Space-General Corp for early exploration of Moon and planets, is vehicle resembling clamshell which is capable of traversing rugged ground and taking video pictures for transmission to Earth; it moves forward by progressive opening and closing of its shell-like covering panels, advancing "step" with each opening; because "steps" are accompanied by forward tumbles, vehicle is called Tumbling Explorer, or "TEX"; 3 ft long, 5 ft wide and 12 in. deep, TEX is self-contained and ready-to-work without unfolding or inflation; TEX can be steered by pivoting drive mechanism, accomplished by command from Earth; other details.
