Effects of meteoroids on nuclear-rocket vehicles for three missions are presented; probability of failure to complete lunar mission is negligible for unprotected nuclear rocket wherein nuclear stage is used only to accelerate payload spacecraft to desired earth-lunar transfer velocity; if such unprotected nuclear rocket is also used to retro fire payload into lunar orbit, there is 2% probability of failure to successfully complete mission; shield of 0.02-in, aluminum around liquid hydrogen propellant tank reduces probability of failure to less than 0.5% for single mission for both lunar and orbital vehicles.
