Orbiting Geophysical Observatory OGO has ten experiment packages which are deployed from spacecraft body; paper describes analytical and experimental simulations of complex unfolding motion of multi-segment 21-ft booms; angular positions of boom segments can be obtained from analysis as function of time; technique provides determination of deployment patterns which minimize structural loads and do not cause clearance problems; applicability to prediction of planar deploying motion of many multi-segment appendages.
