Experience gained in designing and developing McDonnell's man-rated 30-ft diam space-simulation chamber is used as basis in discussing man-rating of space chamber facilities; various design approaches are outlined and optimum one selected to achieve manrated facility with maximum safety; structural design, material considerations, repressurizations, non-contaminant conditions, and other man-rated features are discussed; proposed improvements and recommendations for design of future man-rated chambers are presented.
